Our time clocks were pretty out of wack on our first morning. The girls did really well on the flight over and but they were anxious to get going on our first day. Abby is showing Jerry her picture of the beach. Below is a picture of the girls on the balcony at our condo. We were on the 34th floor so we had an excellent view of the beach. We had to go grocery shopping and get tickets to the attraction we wanted to visit throughout the week. We also went to the flee market and got lost our first day on the island. All in all it was a good day.

We explored the North Shore after going to Koolina Beach. We had some shaved ice and ice cream. We stopped at one of the beaches so the girls could enjoy their treat and swim a little.

Hannah took several pictures of Jer and Bran after the photographer left. She did a really good job. It was nice to have our own personal photographer this trip. Thanks Han.
This was on Bellows Air Force Base...there were some beach cottages near by. I guess this is were people who are stationed in Hawaii must vacation. It's really beautiful here!

Ruth's Chris for dinner

Since we were all dressed up we decided to go out to dinner. We were able to go to the newest Ruths' Chris in Oahu. The food was fabulous and the service was fantastic. The picture below is Hannah wrapped up in a table cloth. The waitress noticed Hannah was really cold and got her a table cloth to cover up with.

Day 4

We started off at the flea market today and Olivia was very tired. She had asked us for about the last 30 minutes to please take her to the beach so she could cool off. Abby just wanted a shaved ice and Hannah wanted to shop until her entire family dropped. We almost did but I think we left just in time. We did make it to the beach later and watched the sunset.

We had spent the afternoon at the beach, I know hard to believe, and knew we wanted to stay to watch the sunset. I had taken some pictures of a couple on the beach for them and they offered to take our picture. This was Jerry's idea and I think it came out rather cute.

Day 5

Olivia turns 5 on Thursday, April 24. This trip was planned for her and we hope she will have this wonderful memory for life!
Olivia really loved the beach and when we asked what she wanted to do for her day she said, "the beach," and I said, "that's my girl!"
Abby looked so cool and cute with this hat, not suppose to be a swim hat but we used it as such and it kept her from nasty sunburn on the head.
Scary! I figured it wasn't fair to post everyone else being lazy on the beach and not myself.
Jer and Han, they were so happy to have these beach umbrellas to protect and create and nice shade from the sun.

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY OLIVIA

I drove around town trying to find Safeway but instead found a bakery where I got this cake. It was rather pricey (like most things in HI) and none of us liked it. Olivia instisted on having cake on her birthday so here it is. I still owe her a decent chocolate cake since this one didn't exactly meet her demands :-)

I know you can't see her but I like this picture becuase you can see the candle burning and the scenerey in the background is nice, I know I'm strange.

Luau at the Hale Koa

We went to the Hale Koa Luau for Olivia's birthday. We enjoyed it and met some very nice people. They announced Olivia celebrating her 5th birthday and she was so afraid they were going to make her come up on the stage. They didn't but everyone at our table did tell her how special it was that she got to turn 5 in Hawaii.

Day 6

Hannah and Jerry went on a submarine tour Friday morning. I opted out and Abby and Olivia didn't want to go either. We went enjoy the morning at the Hale Koa (military only hotel in Waikiki) pool. What a life for people who live there. It is a really great pool and they allow all military to use the pool even if you are not staying at the hotel. We had shaved ice from the snack bar but it was not the same at AOKI on the North Shore.

Hannah and Jerry took these pictures on the sub tour. They saw lots of fish, a sunken ship and a sunken airplane. They do this on purpose to make a reef for the fish to swim around. They even spotted some sea turtles.

Waikiki Beach

These are the rocks that separate the lagoon below from the ocean waves. I was trying to catch a picture of the girls with a wave crashing behind them but of course I was not successful.
That is diamond head behind us, the scenery here is just remarkable (minus the flag pole to the left)! Look all the way to the right at the wave crashing on the rocks, that is the scene I was trying to catch with the girls, oh well.
This was the beach we went to the most. It was one block from our condo and the girls really enjoyed it. The water was nice and warm and the entire area was only about 2.5 to 3 feet deep. Hannah is certainly entering a new phase of not wanting to be near her family all the time. Most of the time Hannah met a friend and would have someone to play and talk with. She had some interesting stories to tell us. The girls brought these rafts and just floated around the water.

This was a beautiful drive from Waikiki toward Makapu'u lighthouse. The part of the island is very rocky with many cliffs that meet the ocean.

The girls were excited when we first got started but I don't think they new just how tough it will be to hike two miles up hill in the heat.

We were really happy at this point we could see the lighthouse and new we were almost there.
Jerry was a little upset with me for going to the edge to take this picture. He does not like to see how high up he is and he did not like when we got to close to look at the view.

It was a little challenging for the girls to make this two mike hike (one way) because of the heat and going up hill and Jerry is not real fond of going to higher altitudes, however, we persevered and we made it!

We were pretty wiped out from our hike so after a break in the condo we took a trolley ride through Waikiki to Hilo Hattie. It is a popular store that runs a free trolley. Here the girls pose for a picture in front of the biggest aloha shirt we have ever seen.

We went to church Sunday morning and then back to the condo to rest. Abby and Jerry wanted to hang out in the condo so I took Hannah and Olivia to the pool. We had a nice afternoon relaxing around the pool. When we went back up Jerry suggested we take a drive to the north shore to get shaved ice and watch the sunset. Well that was one of my favorite things to do so we packed up. On the way I took this picture of the VOG. That is not a typo it is volcanic fog...vog.

I took about thirty pictures of the sun setting. I thought it was so cool that the colors in the sky kept changing. All three of these pictures were taken the same evening on the same beach.

Wow! The pictures are not even close to just how beautiful this beach is. Watching the sunset was something we really enjoyed.

Day 9

The view was so nice. Watching a dolphin show with the ocean as the background was really cool.
On Monday we went to Sea Life Park. It is like a mini Seaworld but way smaller. We saw lots of dolphin shows and others sea animals. Abigail and Brandy got in the water to swim with the dolphins. The picture above is Abigail shaking hands/fins with the dolphin. The other girls were not interested in doing this activity so they watched. The pool water was very cold!

Day 10

So none of us are excited about the plane ride home. It will be a long day to say the least. We will leave Hawaii at 1:30 pm local time, that means it is 7:30 pm EST. We fly to San Francisco, 1.5 hr layover and then to Washington Dulles. We arrive at Dulles at 7:30 am on Wednesday. We have had a fantastic time and feel so blessed that the Lord has provided for us to take this special trip. It has been even better than the first time I was here and I look forward to coming back. Jerry says I have to wait 5 years, I say I want to come back in 3 years. We will see who wins that battle :-)

Aloha!! Hawaii 2008

Well we have made it home after spending 10 days in Hawaii. We were on the island of Oahu and stayed primarily in Waikiki beach although we did lots of things all around the island. In the coming weeks I will post our pictures of our trip. You all know I don't keep up very well with our blog but I have lost my cable to the camera so I have not been able to download my pictures from my camera. I realized while on vacation that Jerry has a card reader on his computer so I will be able to start posting again. I will start with Hawaii and then post some things that we did earlier this year. On Tuesday of last week on our 4th day in Hawaii we had a photographer come out to Waimanalo Beach to take our pictures. It was a beautiful day and the girls commented they thought the background looks "fake". Please visit this link for all the pictures...

After the concert we went to spend the day at Tysons Corner mall and the girls took time to make sure Santa knew exactly what they were expecting on Christmas morning.

Air Force Band

For the second year we went to DC to attend the US Air Force Bands holiday concert. It was a treat again this year and helps us get into the holiday spirit. Well despite the freezing temperatures we did not want to miss an opportunity to ride the train. It was very cold but we tried to snuggle up together and use body heat to keep warm. The hot chocolate hleped a little but as we are on the train it started lightly snowing.

Jerry and I took our first extended motorcycle ride together this summer. I had not been on the bike for more than five minutes. So instead of taking an easy hour long ride we went all out and rode out to the mountains for a day trip. We were with Lori and Rod Newman and our girls spent the day at their house. It was a lot of fun but I have a new respect for bike riders. It is physically demanding to hold your body up like that. My bum was quite sore from sitting on that little bitty seat.

Hannah had her friends over to celebrate her 9th birthday. We hula hooped, played pictionary, played dance praise, and wrapped shoe boxes with gifts for operation Christmas Child. She enjoyed her girl day and we were glad to celebrate on Saturday the 3rd of Nov. because when she woke up Sunday 11-4 (her actual birthday) she was sick.

Jerry he is so cool. He built a bed for Hannah. We ordered a new memory foam mattress for our bed and it was terribly hard so we gave it to Hannah. Now our guest can sleep on king size mattress, however, they will probably cut their trip short by several days because it is not very comfortable.

The girls each had a laptop and were probably decorating their webkinz rooms. It the latest craze that they love to do on the internet. I have even caught myself playing and trying to earn them more money. Olivia and Abby love to shop and their webkinz have way too many clothes. I can't imagine were they learned that. Hannah is much wiser with her spending if only she could do that in real life.

Olivia was so excited to go to her soccer tots class for about 5 minutes. She realized it was not the same thing that her sisters were doing and she did not like it. They teach the kids some basic skills but they do not play any games. We will wait until she is old enough to play at the next level before we try again.

That's Abby getting her turn playing goalie. I was so nervous for her. Luckily I don't think she had any really hard balls to block. She had really great coaches for a first year player. She got to play all different positions. At her age it is a totally different game than Hannah because everyone is chasing the ball. We had lots of fun watching but she did say after her first practice she preferred ballet because she did not have to get so sweaty.

Hannah had a great first year of soccer. We were surprised how good some of these kids are at this age. She had been really worried about trying something new but she had so much fun. Her team ended it up 2nd out of 10 teams.

Well here are a few pictures from our summer activities. My camera broke right after Abby's birthday so I have no new pictures to post. We recently went camping and did not have a camera so I will write a post about our weekend. I have purchased a new camera on Friday and so I plan on taking some pictures of the girls playing soccer this week. I could not wait to see Hannah, it was the longest time she had been away from home. I was hugging her so hard she asked me to stop.

Hannah was so excited to go away to camp this year. She left on Monday and returned on Friday. I hope this smile on her face is evidence of a good time at camp!

Olivia was blessed to be able to serve as the flower girl in Dustin and Lindsey's wedding this summer. It was a sprint to the finish to get everything ready at church but it happened and it was a beautiful wedding.

Day 1 - Travel to Denver

Okay so we flew out of BWI because it was straight flight and it was the least expensive. Won't do that again anytime soon. My husband makes all these trips and he does not travel well when it comes to airports. He was stressed out before we ever got to the airport. It was not a very fun trip out since the airlines kept changing our departure status and we ended up sitting on the aircraft for 2 and half hours before taking off. We were happy to fianally get there but were pretty tired at the end of our first day.

Hannah had many emotions as she got on a horse for the first time ever. She was excited, nervous, and very cautious.
She was holding on very tightly to Jay's mane. Pauls assured her that she would not hurt him by doing this. She got to ride bare back.

Jay was very nice and gentle with all his riders. He even stopped to look and pose for this picture.

We spent Monday morning touring Hammond's candy factory. It was free and it was very hot outside that day so I thought it would be fun. They of course exit you through the candy shop after the tour so it was no longer free for us. The hardest part was picking only one thing for each of us.

We made the hatchback of Uncle Eddie's car cozy for the girls to ride in while we search for wildlife.
We had a contest to see who could find the smallest pinecone...Hannah won!
These girls loved climbing all the rocks...now you can see why they call them the Rockies...are maybe you already knew that.

We saw many deer and even a mom and fawn. The first thing we saw was a moose a (bottom picture). It's very hard to see in this picture but see if you can spot it. I could zoom it on my camera screen and get a pretty cool look at him.

Day 7...A Morning Hike

We promised the girls the evening before that we would take them hiking. We were out around 9 am to go for a nice walk. There was path and it was an easy hike but they really had a lot of fun.
You must have just the right walking stick for hiking these trails. We all found one fairly quickly. Jerry on the other hand never did, he was looking forward some perfect stick just the right size and it had to be aspen.

This is a family tradition to have the kids take a picture on this tree. Olivia was so mad because the branches were poking her legs. I took probably 8 pictures and this is the only one she finally quickly looked at me and smiled.
